Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE-Thin

Adobe Illustrator DWG Export

During testing, DWG files exported from Adobe Illustrator occasionally displayed Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE text incorrectly when first opened in AutoCAD.

The geometry itself remains unchanged. Use the AutoCAD REGENALL or EXPLODE command to refresh the display
and restore the correct appearance of the text.
After that, the drawing can be edited and saved normally.

This behavior was observed when text was converted to outlines in Adobe Illustrator and exported in DWG format.

WHY ORACH TECHNIC POLYLINE

Most modern TrueType and OpenType fonts are built from quadratic or cubic Bézier curves.
When such fonts are imported into CAD, CAM, CNC, laser engraving or plotting software,
those curves must be converted into line segments before machining or plotting can begin.

The quality of this conversion depends entirely on the software being used.
In practice, this often results in excessive numbers of points, irregular curves, distorted geometry
and inefficient toolpaths.

Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE eliminates this problem. Instead of relying on automatic curve approximation,
every character has been prepared using optimized polyline geometry.
The line segments are already built into the font itself, providing predictable and consistent results
across different software platforms.

The practical advantages are especially visible when exporting technical drawings to formats such as HPGL (.PLT),
where standard TrueType fonts often generate unnecessary nodes and fragmented geometry,
while Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE produces clean and efficient vector output.

BUILT FROM REAL ENGRAVING EXPERIENCE

The development of Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE is based on more than 40 years
of practical engraving experience using various types of CNC engraving machines.

In the engraving industry, cutters, gravers and milling tools ranging from 0.1 mm to 6 mm are commonly used.
This requires technical fonts capable of producing reliable results at character heights
ranging from 1 mm to 60 mm and beyond.

During development, special attention was given to the geometric resolution of every character.
The goal was to achieve a polyline structure detailed enough for large-scale lettering
while remaining efficient and practical for very small engraved text.

This balance was not discovered by trial and error. It was already well understood
through decades of everyday production work.

RESOLUTION OPTIMIZATION

A common mistake in polyline font creation is using either too few segments, which produces rough curves,
or too many segments, which creates unnecessarily heavy geometry.

Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE was optimized for the real-world engraving range
of approximately 1 mm to 60 mm character height.

This means the font remains practical for fine engraving while retaining smooth geometry at much larger sizes.

NOT AN AUTOMATIC CONVERSION

To many observers, creating a polyline version from an existing vector font may appear simple.
In reality, this project could not be completed using any automatic conversion tool.

Each character was individually processed through multiple stages, including export from the original font,
reconstruction as polyline geometry at a precisely defined resolution, reimport into the font editor
and final manual corrections.

The final result preserves the visual appearance and compatibility of the original Orach Technic Pro - Thin font
while providing optimized polyline geometry for technical applications.

DEVELOPMENT HISTORY

Similar polyline fonts have been used internally by our company for more than 35 years
in both single-line and double-line versions.

Those earlier fonts contained only approximately 400 characters, including Latin, Cyrillic and Greek alphabets,
as well as the most frequently used technical symbols.

In 2025, this accumulated experience was applied to the complete Orach Technic Pro - Thin font,
resulting in a fully developed polyline font containing 5,845 characters.

Only a small group of highly specialized mathematical symbols that are not required
for technical engraving applications has been omitted.

PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS

Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE is intended for professional technical use, including CNC engraving,
laser engraving, CAD/CAM systems, HPGL plotting, technical drawing, industrial labeling,
signage and engineering documentation.

The core idea behind Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE is simple:
the polyline geometry is already built into every character.

CAD, CAM, CNC and plotting software do not need to guess how curves should be approximated.
The optimized vector structure is already there.

• Important

Orach Technic Pro POLYLINE is simply an alternative version of our Orach Technic Pro - Thin (ProGrav) font,
not a replacement for it. ProGrav remains our flagship and most widely used engraving font.

POLYLINE was created for situations where older software, legacy CAD/CAM systems
or specific manufacturing workflows cannot fully benefit from the standard TrueType version.

For most engraving applications, the original Orach Technic Pro - Thin (ProGrav) font
remains the preferred solution.
