We know this will be painful for any potential buyer of the font to read in the contract. It is also difficult for us when we see that today the best programs are no longer sold but rented for example on 3 years. What is the reason we decided to take this step? If you spent your whole life making one font, investing most of the capital of your company that worked for industry and marking objects, the price of that font should be so much that it somehow pays off. The internet is flooded with a huge amount of free fonts, operating systems and programs also offer a large number of fonts. Technical persons, who should primarily be buyers of this font, (Mechanical enginers and Architects) are very rarely interested in buying fonts. In 40 years of working with industry and architects I've never met anyone like that, see what is better, but not and to buy font. They have bigger problems than letters, and I completely understand them. If the price of the font was high, none of the technical people would buy it, and if the price was low, it would never be worth it. The main problem is not that this would not be worth it, the main problem is that with a low price and a lifetime right to use this font, it would not be possible to ensure further development of the font. For further development of the font and communication with old and new customers of the font, a whole team of younger people is needed, which should be hired together with the business premises. It is no longer enough to hire only a graduate typographer, who only learned the basics at school, and then train him for years. It is necessary to bring in experienced and creative typographers who will immediately join the work. For further development, it is necessary to include some of the world's most famous typographers as collaborators, especially for each new script. The uninitiated will probably wonder what there is to do next, and I won't be able to simply answer, there are endless jobs. Many of the 8,000 known languages we haven't even gotten around to reviewing in 35 years. They aren't on the internet, they need to be written national libraries and communicate with professors of linguistics of those countries etc. It should also be replaced with the Unicode standard, which did not define it. |
